Vermont Public Radio Excellence in DEI Entry: 'Homegoings'

A homegoing is an often elaborate African-American funeral tradition, marking the going-home of the dead.

Launched on May 25, 2021, the one-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, “Homegoings” features conversations with artists of color who live in Vermont. In each episode, we speak with an artist about four distinct pillars of Black grief: Joy, grief, rage and healing. At the end of each episode we take a deep listen to some of their art.

"Homegoings" is a series from Brave Little State, VPR's people-powered journalism project. The audio above contains an edited selection of the following episodes. (Warning: The final episode contains racial slurs and profanity.)
