For VPR
It is critical to have accurate, timely information right now, and VPR has expanded our news coverage in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

We know how important it is to have accurate, timely information as we navigate the coronavirus pandemic, and that you’re counting on VPR more than ever to provide it. We’ve expanded our programming in response to this outbreak. Here’s how to get it. Update for May 27, 2020: As we move out of the initial phase of this crisis into a cautious "new normal," we're committed to keeping you informed. Starting this week, Vermont Edition returns to 12-1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Vermont Edition will air from 1-2 p.m. following our live coverage of Gov. Phil Scott's press briefings.

Original Post:

  • The coronavirus coverage section of VPR.org is where to look for the latest numbers of COVID-19 in Vermont, and a daily live blog of updates from around the state. Our reporters are sharing the stories of people across the state to hear how this crisis is affecting the economy, the healthcare system and everyday life.
  • We've increased our local newscasts so you have the latest updates throughout the day.
  • We’re carrying live coverage of Gov. Phil Scott's press conferences on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m., as well as briefings by other officials as news warrants.
  • Vermont Edition has expanded to two hours per day Monday-Thursday, from noon-2 p.m., to amplify more listener voices and bring Vermonters together. (Here & Now moves back an hour to 2-3 p.m.
  • On Tuesdays at 1 p.m., the second hour of Vermont Edition will be an "open phone lines" program, hosted by Bob Kinzel and Morning Edition's Mitch Wertlieb, when we invite you to share your stories and experiences.
  • But Why, VPR's podcast for curious kids, will air live, interactive educational programs for elementary students on Fridays at 1 p.m. May 8 through June 19. The programs are in collaboration with the Vermont Agency of Education to help children and their caregivers finish the academic year from home and give students the opportunity to interact and learn together even if they don't have reliable internet access.
  • On Friday evenings at 7 p.m., listen for The Daily from The New York Times. Hosted by Michael Barbaro, it shares the biggest stories of our time with context and humanity
  • On Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m., listen for an audio version of Vermont This Week, Vermont PBS' weekly news roundtable with Vermont journalists.
  • Subscribe to get The Frequency each weekday morning to get up to speed on the coronavirus outbreak and other news Vermont is talking about.

Finally, I want to thank you: we couldn’t provide any of this essential coverage without the support of our members and business sponsors. We know some of you are going through a difficult time, and we promise we’ll be with you every step of the way as this story evolves. Thank you for being there for us.
