Arts Council To Host Awards Gala And Summit

October is a busy time for the Vermont Arts Council, and for arts-lovers in general.

The month kicks off with the Annual Arts Awards galain Brandon Tuesday, October 1.  And the Council is also gearing up for the Vermont Arts Summit, October 26 at the Statehouse in Montpelier.

The Governor's Award For Excellence will be presented to artist Warren Kimble.

Awards will also be presented to author Jay Parini, Bruce Bouchard of Rutland, who has helped revive the Paramount Theater, and sculptor Carol Driscoll of West Rutland.

VPR’s Neal Charnoff sits down with Vermont Arts Council Executive Director Alex Aldrich for a preview.

Neal was a reporter and VPR's All Things Considered host from 2001 to 2014. He joined VPR in 1996, hosting VPR's jazz programming, including live performances from the VPR studios and the Discover Jazz Festival. Prior to VPR, Neal was a programmer and host for WNCS in Montpelier and WDEV in Waterbury. He holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College.
