There are 156 women currently in Vermont's correctional system, all housed at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington. But many believe that it's in need of maintenance and lacks adequate safety features necessary in 2019. We're talking about the push for a new women's prison.
Discussing what a new women's correctional facility would look like are Springfield Rep. Alice Emmons, chair of the House Committee on Corrections and Institutions, and Mike Touchette, Vermont's Department of Corrections commissioner.
And we'll hear from Karen Tronsgard-Scott, executive director of the Vermont Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, for her perspective.
