Town Meeting is over and many people around Vermont have been bestowed with new job titles. But what exactly are the responsibilities of a paid town lister or a volunteer library trustee?
Enter the Town Officers Education Conferences, commonly referred to as TOEC. That's where many newly elected or appointed town officers find out much of what they need to know to serve their municipality. It's also a time for even seasoned town officers to learn more about everything from keeping vital records to learning the intricacies of Vermont's Open Meeting Law.
This spring, TOECs will be offered in three locations around the state:
- April 2 — Lake Morey Inn, Fairlee
- April 9 — Sheraton, Burlington
- April 23 — Grand Hotel, Killington
This year is the 69th annual slate of TOECs. The University of Vermont Extension puts on the day-long conferences, with help from a long list of state agencies and other community partners. Many towns will pay for its officers to attend the conference, and encourage participation year after year.
