Palliative care is specialized medical care that treats pain and other symptoms of patients with serious illness. It's a branch of medicine that can have a major impact - not only on patients, but on their families as well.
As medical practice, it's as old as medicine itself. As a recognized medical specialty, it's almost brand new, and still in some ways being introduced to patients and the public.
Today, we're talking to Dr. Robert Gramling, the new Holly and Bob Miller Chair in Palliative Medicine at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
