Marking 100 Years of Women's Suffrage, A Look At Vermont Women's Struggle For Voting Rights

August 26, 2020 marks the 100 year anniversary of the 19th Amendment becoming law of the land in Vermont.

It's been 100 years since the 19th Amendment was ratified, which gave women in the United States the right to vote. This hour, we speak with a panel of women about the history of women's suffrage, nationally and specifically in Vermont. We also look at how it has evolved, progressed and regressed in the last century.

Helen Lyons serves as the Music Manager and host of Vermont Public Classical’s Monday-Saturday morning program. She grew up in Williston, Vermont, and holds a BA in Music from Wellesley College and Artist Diplomas from the Royal Academy of Music in London, and College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. She has enjoyed an international singing career spanning three continents, performing in Europe, China, The Philippines and the USA.
Emily was a Vermont Edition producer at Vermont Public Radio until September 2021.
