Open enrollment is underway for Vermont Health Connect. The open enrollment deadline is Dec. 15.

Open enrollment is underway on Vermont’s health insurance marketplace, Vermont Health Connect. Sean Sheehan, deputy director of the Department of Vermont Health Access, sheds some light on what’s changed this year, and he has this advice: "This is not the year to auto-renew."

The good news is that if people spend some time comparison shopping for health insurance plans, this year it could actually yield some big savings — according to Sheehan, uninsured Vermonters might even be able to get a plan for less in 2019 than they could at any point in the last five years.

Vermont Health Connect's Plan Comparison Tool helps people figure out what plan is best for them. The open enrollment deadline is Dec. 15.

Listen to Sheehan speak with VPR's Mitch Wertlieb above.

A graduate of NYU with a Master's Degree in journalism, Mitch has more than 20 years experience in radio news. He got his start as news director at NYU's college station, and moved on to a news director (and part-time DJ position) for commercial radio station WMVY on Martha's Vineyard. But public radio was where Mitch wanted to be and he eventually moved on to Boston where he worked for six years in a number of different capacities at member station WBUR...as a Senior Producer, Editor, and fill-in co-host of the nationally distributed Here and Now. Mitch has been a guest host of the national NPR sports program "Only A Game". He's also worked as an editor and producer for international news coverage with Monitor Radio in Boston.
Bayla joined VPR in 2018 as the producer for Morning Edition. She left in 2019.
