Both Waitsfield and Warren will be holding bond votes next month for municipal solar projects.

Voters in Waitsfield and Warren will be going to the ballot box on May 6 to vote on solar projects to power the town and school buildings in their respective towns. Both projects are through Waitsfield-based Aegis Renewable Energy, and the towns are applying for grant funds through the Vermont Clean Energy Development Fund.

The Vermont Clean Energy Fund will pay up to half the cost of approved projects. Grant amounts range from $5,000 to $125,000.

The proposed Waitsfield project would to be built on the town garage property. Voters will consider spending up to $355,000 to build the project, with an expected output of 119,792 kilowatts. Australian ballot voting will take place at Waitsfield Elementary School. An informational meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 5, also at the elementary school.

Warren voters will consider bonding up to $462,829 to finance a fixed ground-mounted solar array with an output of up to 162,000 kilowatts, to offset town and town school district electrical loads. Voting will take place at the Warren Elementary School throughout the day on May 6. An informational hearing on the project will be held at the Warren Municipal Building Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m.

If approved, the projects will be built this summer.
