Maintenance and repair costs of the Everett Mansion, pictured here, was among the concerns cited by the Oliverian School.

A New Hampshire boarding school is backing out of a deal to purchase the former Southern Vermont College campus in Bennington.

Under the purchase and sales agreement, the Oliverian School had three months to examine the campus before making a financial commitment. The decision comes just before that deadline.

The Bennington Banner reports trustees of the Oliverian School voted on Friday to withdraw from the deal due to the high cost of campus maintenance and repairs.

The Oliverian School's website states "Oliverian is a non-profit, alternative, college-prep boarding school for adolescents who have not thrived in traditional settings."

The school had planned to close its Pike, New Hampshire campus and open in Bennington in the fall.
