Jackie and Vural Oktay own three Vermont businesses that specialize in Turkish food and products.

Vermont may lack the ethnic diversity found in major metropolitan areas, but there are small pockets of foreign influences around the state. In fact, one couple is creating a small Turkish empire with two restaurants and a retail store.

Vural and Jackie Oktay are the couple behind Istanbul Kebab House in Burlington as well as Tuckerbox and Little Istanbul in White River Junction. Raised in Istanbul, Turkey, Vural eventually made his way to Vermont where he met his wife and Jay native, Jackie. Seven Days food writer, Sally Pollak, tells us more about the pair's love story, business partenership, and the food and items of Turkey they offer in Vermont.

After listening to this episode of The VPR Cafe, check out Pollak's story, "Istanbul Kebab Team Open Import Shop In White River Junction."
