Tom Bodett & Storytellers On A Mission

May 27, 2013 7:00pm  You’ll hear four of the most entertaining storytellers on the planet as VPR presents Storytellers On A Mission, hosted by Tom Bodett.  The event was recorded at the Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro April 20th..   The line up:

  • Adam Wade – You’ve heard Adam on The Moth and All Things Considered.  He’s an 18 time StorySLAM winner and 2-time GrandSLAM champion at The Moth.   His story is about making peace with the mistakes of our youth.
  • Jim O’Grady – You’ve also heard Jim on The Moth as well as This American Life.  He’s also the transportation reporter for WNYC in New York City.  His story recounts his beginnings as a journalist for his college newspaper.
  • Brooke Van Poppelin - Esquire's Magazine's Best New Comedian of  2012.   Any body who’s been on a really (really) bad date can identify with her story.
  • P.J. O’Rouke - Political correspondent, satirist and author, PJ O'Rourke explains how Congress works (or doesn’t).

Storytellers on a Mission is woven together with the familiar wit and wisdom of host Tom Bodett, a frequent guest on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, author, Car Talk Blogger.

Here’s a little background on the show, which was a fundraising event for The Latchis:  Tom Bodett and Richard Korson, a former Daily Show producer who recently moved to Vermont, have formed a fund-raising non-profit called The Hatch.  In Tom’s words, the mission of The Hatch is to ‘Have fun.  Do Good.’  This first all-star show benefited the Latchis and the performers all gave of their time and talents for free.  (The show also included Moth storytellers Peter Aguero and Ed Gavagan).  The Hatch is planning more shows and events that will benefit other cultural organizations in the Brattleboro area.  The next one is tentatively scheduled for this fall, so stay tuned.

VPR's Jane Lindholm interviewed Tom and Rich on Vermont Edition April 18th.   The Hatch website is under construction, but you'll soon be able to learn more about the project at HatchVt.org
