Farther, Faster: Effort Continues To Expand Broadband In Vt.

Depending on where you are in Vermont, your access to the internet and the speed of that connection vary dramatically. Tuesday on Vermont Edition, we look at how widely available high-speed internet is here, and the efforts to connect the so-called "final miles."

Our guest is Chris Campbell, executive director of the Vermont Telecommunications Authority. We also hear from Irv Thomae, chair of EC Fiber, which is testing an unusual business model to provide service in east-central Vermont.

Also in the program, the effect of sequester budget cuts on the Vermont National Guard.  Major General Steven Cray, the adjutant general of the Vermont National Guard, joins us to explain the impact of  furloughing 500 military technicians one day per week from July 8 to September 30.

One in five Vermonters is considered elderly. But what does being elderly even mean — and what do Vermonters need to know as they age? I’m looking into how aging in Vermont impacts living essentials such as jobs, health care and housing. And also how aging impacts the stuff of life: marriage, loss, dating and sex.
