Art Hounds: Spice On Snow
Musician Chris Hollis and singer/songwriter Linda Young of Montpelier both suggested the Summit School For Traditional Music and Culture's 4th annual Spice on Snow Winter Festival this weekend in Montpelier.
Ceilidh Galloway Kane recommended a respite from the icy temps with the Winter Jazz Relief event from Catamount Arts, next Tuesday, January 14 at 6 p.m. at Catamount Arts Center in St. Johnsbury.
The evening combines live jazz from Abbie Morin and Leon Campos and poetry readings by 2013 Vermont Poetry Out Loud winner, Christian DeKett, a senior at St. Johnsbury Academy and VPR's own resident haiku-smith and host of Friday Night Jazz, Reuben Jackson.
Judith Howland recommends seeing some up-and-coming performers from the Upper Valley at the 6th Annual Emerging Artists Showcase in Hartland on Saturday, January 11. The showcase is at Damon Hall in Hartland and will feature young performing and visual artists from the area.
Diane Greenall of West Windsor suggested a talk, slide-show and film presentation by Dick Nason, also at Damon Hall in Hartland. Nason is a retired forester with insight on how our own forests were logged and treated in the pre-EPA days. The event, Logging In A Bygone Era, is January 18 at 8 p.m. For more details, call 436-2266.
