The average age of Vermonters is expected to continue to rise over the next two decades.

Vermont projects that the state's overall population will increase by 7 percent between 2010 and 2030. But the population of senior citizens could increase by as much as 113 percent over that same period of time.

As the average age in the country's population  increases, the biggest spike is occurring in Vermont and the Northeast. Younger Vermonters are leaving and older residents are living longer.

St. Michael's College Sociology Professor Vince Bolduc and UVM Economist Art Woolf look at the long-term effects the graying of the state may have on the economy, attitudes and the viability of Vermont.

Also on the program, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the granite industry was a huge job generator and social force in the region. And for the last 90 years, the Rock of Ages Corporation has been inviting visitors to see what they’re up to. Todd Paton, the director of Visitor Services, takes us on a tour.

And we read your comments from our virtual mailbag.

Broadcast live on Thursday, June 5 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
