Athletes are forever testing the limits of their prowess and endurance. Runners might start with a 5K, but eventually, 10Ks, half marathons and marathons beckon. Then there are triathlons.
Now add obstacle races to the mix. These include activities like climbing up ropes, throwing spears, hurdling over walls, crawling under barbed wire and leaping over fire.
Joe DeSena of Pittsfield is the creator of the Spartan Races. He discusses how the races came about and have grown into international events.
Also on the program, Breck Bowden, director of the Lake Champlain Sea Grant Program, teaches us about lake phenomena like turnover and seiche.
