Falling Leaves Attract World-Class Music To Vermont

As the colors change and the leaves fall, live music abounds in the VPR listening area - we will preview local performances this week by, among many others, Allen Toussaint with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in St. Johnsbury,  the Paul Winter Consort with the Greater Brattleboro Choir of the Community,  and Natalie Merchant in Burlington.

This program will air on Sunday October 19th from 7-10 p.m.

This week's calendar announcements:

 The Paul Winter Consort performs in a benefit for the Guilford Community Church's Green-Up Project on Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m., at the Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro. The Greater Brattleboro Choir of the Community, directed by Peter Amidon, joins Paul Winter and friends on stage for a few songs, including songs by Pete Seeger. 

Jeff Fellinger and Julia Wayne will perform songs from their recent CD "Apples in the Spring" on Friday October 24th at 169 N. Willard St. in Burlington.  Music starts at 7 p.m., and there will be pie!

On Saturday, October 25th the Stowe Blues, Brews and Barbecue will be happening at the Rusty Nail in Stowe. Featured artists include Luther 'Guitar, Jr.' Johnson and the Magic Rockers, Matt Schofield, Dave Keller (solo), and the Al Moore Blues Band.  Doors and barbecue open at 5pm.

David Olney returns to the Good Times Café in Hinesburg on Friday October 24th at 8:30 p.m.

Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present singer, guitarist, fiddler and banjo player Sam Amidon and his band, celebrating the release of Sam’s new CD “Lily-O” on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30 pm at New England Youth Theatre at 100 Flat Street in downtown Brattleboro.  

Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music also will present Sierra Hull and her Tennessee-based bluegrass quintet Highway 111 on Sunday, October 26 at 7:30 pm at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band with special guest Alan Toussaint will perform at Fuller Hall at the St. Johnsbury Academy on Tuesday October 21st at 7 p.m.

P.M. Sundays, a series held at Richmond's Congregational Church, presents Brooks Williams on Sunday October 26th at 4 p.m.

Andy Cohen and Paul Asbell will perform at the Café Lena in Saratoga Springs on Friday October 24th at 8 p.m.

The Fourth Saturday Contradance with Cuckoo’s Nest and with Adina Gordon calling will be held at Tracy Hall in Norwich on Saturday October 25th at 8 p.m. This month features a special Family Dance from 5-6:30 and a potluck supper at 6:30.

Natalie Merchant will perform on the Flynn Mainstage in Burlington on Tuesday October 21st.

Bramblewood, an acoustic trio featuring Carol Hausner, Danny Coane, and Colin McCaffrey, will perform at the Skinny Pancake in Montpelier on Sunday October 26th at 6 p.m.
