Songwriter Bennie Benjamin

Bennie Benjamin was one of the most prolific New York City tin pan alley songwriters, having composed dozens of major hit songs steadily from the early 1940's right through the rock & roll 1950's and beyond.

This week, Joel Najman's My Place program tells the story of Bennie Benjamin's fascinating life illustrated by many of his biggest songwriting successes. Major hit recordings by Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and the Ames Brothers are among the selections presented.

Joel has been a part of Vermont's radio scene since 1964. He began his career at WIPS in Ticonderoga, New York. In 1965, he moved to WFAD in Middlebury, Vermont, where he attended Middlebury College. Over the years, Joel worked at radio stations WJOY, WQCR, WDOT, WDEV and WVAA where he served at various times as Morning Announcer, Program Director and News Director.
