Checking In On Hunger In The State

USDA statistics show that the rate of Vermonters with low or very low food security is not improving.

On Monday of this week the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf served more people in a single day than ever before. Meanwhile, USDA statistics show that the hunger rate in Vermont has not improved over the past several years.  We're talking about hunger in the state: how widespread it is, who's hardest hit, and what can be done to help hungry Vermonters.

We're talking to Rob Meehan, director of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. And to Marissa Parisi, executive director of Hunger Free Vermont

Also in the program, we'll learn about why two Vermonters are working with communities in the Peten region in Guatemala to establish a sustainable timber industry. Ben Hodgdon, director of forestry for the Rainforest Alliance, has teamed up with Parker Nichols, who runs a lumber and millwork company in Marshfield.

Broadcast live on Wed., Nov. 18, 2015 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
