Governor Shumlin: The Exit Interview

Taylor Dobbs
VPR file
Peter Shumlin's time as governor will have spanned from January 2011 to January 2017.

Six years ago, Peter Shumlin became the new governor of Vermont. His three-term tenure was marked by natural disaster and major policy debates over health care and energy. We look back on Shumlin's time in the governor's office in a live, hour-long interview.

The focus of Shumlin's first two-year term was radically altered by Tropical Storm Irene and its devastating aftermath. But Shumlin still pursued major policy initiatives like single-payer health care, and the creation of a state health care exchange that was plagued with technical problems. The Shumlin years also saw a major expansion of renewable energy and put a spotlight on the opiate crisis.

On the next Vermont Edition, Gov. Peter Shumlin sits down with us for a final look back on his time in office.

Broadcast live on Monday, December 19, 2016 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
