Vermont Child Care Centers Can Reopen But Worry About Risks

Governor Scott's plan to use money from an expanded Internet Sales Tax to pay for a 7 million dollar increase in child care programs is being criticized by a number of lawmakers

Child care centers were allowed to reopen starting June 1, though some chose not to or could afford to.

Gov. Scott allowed child care centers to reopen starting June 1,  but there has been some pushback from early childhood educators and parents concerned about the health and safety of children and teachers. This hour, we speak with the Department for Children and Families as well as some child care directors and teachers about the reopening of these centers.

The Vermont Department of Health has public health nurses available to childcare, summer, or afterschool programs to answer health related childcare, summer, or afterschool questions from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call: 802-863-7240, select the option for “Childcare Programs”. After hours there will be a childcare, summer, or afterschool question mailbox to leave a message and Health staff will return your call the following business day.
