Simon Boccanegra

Dan Rest
Baritone, Thomas Hampson in the title role of Simon Boccanegra

Beginning this week, Saturday Matinee, features operas from the WFMT Radio Network. Kicking off the WFMT season is Verdi's brooding and complex Simon Boccanegra from the Lyric Opera Of Chicago.

American baritone, Thomas Hampson, takes on the title role, with an impressive Ferruccio Furlanetto as Boccanegra’s sworn enemy, Fiesco. Rounding out the cast is Krassimira Stoyanova as Amelia, Frank Lopardo as Adorno, Quinn Kelsey as Paolo and Evan Bower as Pietro.

Sir Andrew Davis Conducts.

In his review for the Chicago Sun Times, critic, Andrew Patner, said of this production "This is Verdi for the ages." and noted that Italian bass, Ferruccio Furlanetto’s performance as Fiesco "...is like a great master class."
