Jonathan DeRoehn is the featured student composer for August on VPR Classical.

Each month, VPR Classical highlights the work of talented young composers from across the region for our Student Composer Showcase. For August, we'll meet a recent graduate of North Country Union High School, Jonathan DeRoehn.Jonathan's piece Third Take is about persistence in the face of adversity. He's headed to the University of Southern Maine in the fall to study music education.

Performers were members of the InoraBrass Quintet: Chris Rivers and Jason Whitcomb, trumpet; Joy Worland, French horn; Lori Salimando-Porter, trombone; Bill Keck, tuba.

The premiere was at Music-COMP’s Opus 31 concert, on April 27th of this year at the Elley-Long Music Center at St. Michael's College, Colchester, VT.

The Student Composer Showcase is produced in collaboration with Music-COMP’s online composition mentoring. You can find out more at Music-COMP.org
