Several communities around Vermont are considering creating a designated public space for dogs to play untethered. Meeting minutes in Wallingford, Hinesburg, Arlington, and Windsor have all revealed interest in creating a town dog park.

In Arlington the select board has heard a request from a local Girl Scout troop to site a dog park in that town. The Girl Scouts have volunteered to raise all the money for the project, and are looking to the town to provide the land. The select board is considering using land at the Yellow Barn Farm for the park.

Officials in Hinesburg have heard from two separate people who have expressed interest in creating a dog area at the town’s Geprags Park. One resident has researched the locations and costs of existing dog parks around the state and provided that information for the select board to consider.

Wallingford’s Fire District No. 1 Prudential Committee, after hearing from two residents, has agreed to research the idea of creating a dog park on land owned by the Fire District. The specific parcel of land has yet to be determined.

And in Windsor a group pushing for a dog park has gotten as far as to come up with a name and a facebook page. They’re calling their prospective park “Paradise Bark.”

The following is a list of existing dog parks and areas in Vermont:

  • Burlington – Urban Reserve, Waterfront Park, Starr Farm, Burlington Dog Park
