VTA Grant Brings Broadband To 11 Rutland Co. Addresses

A New England wireless firm founded by two Vermonters has been awarded a Vermont Telecommunications Authority grant of $64,130 to bring broadband service to 11 addresses in Chittenden, Ira and Pittsford in Rutland County.

GAW High Speed Internet will also invest at least $28,000 in the project.

GAW uses communications towers to provide wireless broadband to homes.  The company says it will offer three tiers of service, with a top speed of 10 megabits per second download and 2 megabits per second upload.

According to the VTA, the 11 addresses are unserved locations on Casey and Middle Roads in Chittenden, West Road in Ira, and Allen Mills Road, Fire Hill Road, and Five Allen Boys Lane in Pittsford.

GAW says it says it currently has more than 30,000 subscribers in New England.  The company was founded by Josh Garza and Nick Huanca, two former students at Leland and Gray Union High School in Townshend.

The company has offices in Brattleboro and Enfield. Ct.
