Chittenden County Transportation Authority General Manager Bill Watterson will step down at the end of September, the transit service announced Monday.
According to the CCTA release, Watterson is leaving after less than three years on the job to "pursue new professional opportunities."
The announcement comes less than two months after the end of an 18-day driver strike in which the drivers' union strongly criticized Watterson's management style, calling it "predatory" and unfair. Though the strike ended in a contract agreement, drivers voiced criticism after the strike, saying Watterson was slow to sign the new contract.
Watterson oversaw the expansion of service, the company says, into the Jeffersonville and Route 15 areas.
CCTA will hire an interim executive director "over the next several weeks" and begin the search for a permanent replacement for Watterson.
