State Reports More Improvement In FairPoint Repair Delays
The Department of Public Service says FairPoint Communications continues to make significant progress in resolving the backlog of telephone repairs.
The repair delays, which have been a problem since last summer, have landed the company in hot water with regulators.
The department says the number of outstanding repairs has dropped by 50 percent from a week ago.
Based on numbers provided to legislators, that means there are now about 400 Vermont customers waiting for phone service and repairs.
Telecommunications Director Jim Porter says he’s pleased with the progress.
Porter says the state will watch the numbers closely to see what impact this week’s snowstorm will have on FairPoint’s service delay problems.
In a statement released as the storm approached, FairPoint says it is prepared to deal with weather-related outages.
The company says it has "resources, operations and support personnel at the ready across Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine to respond."
