St. Albans Will Invest In Downtown Hotel

The city of St. Albans will invest in a new downtown hotel.

The plans for the hotel will be formally announced Tuesday by city officials and a Winooski developer which intends to bring a national chain to downtown St. Albans.

The city has agreed to invest up to $1 million in the project.

City Manager Dominic Cloud says the investment is just part of an all-out effort to bring a major chain hotel downtown, a city priority for decades.

“We’ve offered free land for a dollar, dedicated parking and streetscape improvements in front of the hotel and it takes every one of those. Without those the project just doesn’t happen,” says Cloud.

The money for the investment was raised through the sale of land and parking rights for a new state office building in St. Albans.
