Controversial Pick For Burlington PD Chief Says Racial Profiling 'Has No Place' In Policing

There’s some controversy growing around the man who’s in line to be Burlington’s next Chief of Police. Mayor Miro Weinberger has nominated New York City Police Deputy Inspector Brandon del Pozo to be the city’s next top cop, but some activists are planning to protest his City Council confirmation vote on Monday.

That’s due to an academic paper he wrote years ago about racial profiling. In it, del Pozo seems to argue that in some cases, racial profiling can be useful to police.

So, is he the right candidate for Burlington? Inspector del Pozo and Mayor Miro Weinberger spoke with VPR about the position and the controversy.
