First Folio: A Peek At The Works Of Shakespeare

In a quiet, darkened room at the Middlebury College Museum of Art, a big book, with gilt edges, sits open under the protection of a clear alarmed plexi-glass box.

It's the First Folio, the collected works of William Shakespeare, published in 1623. There are more than 200 surviving copies, and this year, the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., is sending a few of its copies out to tour all 50 states.

Jane Lindholm went to see the book, and to talk with English and literature professor Timothy Billings and museum staffers Emmie Donadio and Jason Vrooman.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
