Wallingford Traffic Flagger Struck And Killed On Route 7
Lawrence Kaminski, a 75-year-old traffic flagger from Wallingford, was killed Friday morning while working along Route 7 just south of Middlebury.
Kaminski worked for Green Mountain Flagging, and was struck by a utility truck at 8:26 a.m. near Three Mile Bridge Road.
According to Middlebury Police, the utility truck was backing up when it struck Kaminski, who was walking behind it. The flagger died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
Police say Tommy Carrier, 50, of Jericho, was driving the utility truck. Carrier was an employee of Eustis Cable Enterprises, of Brookfield.
“It’s terribly tragic,” says Susan Kay, president of Eustis Cable Enterprises. She says in their 20-year history, their company has never had an incident like this and she says they are all in shock.
“You know, this is a man our employees work with. They know him, they work with him. It’s not just a random company that came out for a day," says Kay. "It’s like an extension of us in a sense. Our own employees are devastated by the loss."
Green Mountain Flagging did not returned calls requesting comment.
The accident remains under investigation and the state medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine cause of death.
