While the plots are currently covered with snow, the Vermont Veteran's Community Garden could look something like this in a matter of months.

The Vermont Veterans' Home is offering up free garden plots to veterans in the Bennington area. The new Vermont Veteran's Community Garden takes root May 1.

"This initiative is to support members of our veteran community in the Bennington area who have a desire to grow their own wholesome organic food but do not have the space at home," a Vermont Veterans' Home press release states.

Garden plots will be available to local veterans and their families on a first-come-first-served basis. The Veteran's Home will prepare the plots so they will be ready to plant May 1. Those interested should call Jon Endres at (802) 447-6528.
