The Morrisville Food Co-op plans to officially open its doors this fall. This rendering shows what MoCo, as it is known locally, will look like after renovations are complete.

After four years of planning, fundraising and growing its membership, the Morrisville Food Co-op is breaking ground this week on a building renovation project. MoCo, as it is known locally, plans to officially open its doors this fall.A group of members came out Monday morning to be part of the ceremonial groundbreaking. Among them was board president Sarah Thomas.

"We haven't had a grocery store in downtown in over 50 years," Thomas told the crowd. "And MoCo can't wait to not only bring a grocery store back to downtown, but also support all the local farmers and producers by providing a storefront to sell local products."

Among those present at the groundbreaking were Elmore residents Bob and Susan Titterton. The Tittertons purchased the downtown Morrisville building and are financing its sale to the co-op.  They are also footing much the bill to renovate the facade. The building served many years ago as a state unemployment office.

"Today is a chance for us to spread the word that MoCo is happening," Susan Titterton commented. "People can see physical changes here."

In addition to the building renovation, MoCo is in the process of hiring a co-op general manager. If the project timeline stays on track, Morrisville will have a downtown grocery store this fall.
