Ludlow Dedicates Food Shelf Building To Community Benefactors

Black River Good Neighbor Services
The community is invited to a dedication ceremony of the William & Phyllis Agan Memorial Building at 10 a.m. on June 14.

The building adjacent to Ludlow's Community Center will henceforth be know as The William and Phyllis Agan Memorial Building. The new name has already be installed on the building and the town has scheduled a public dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14.

Phyllis Agan, who recently passed away, was predeceased by her husband William. Both were active members of the Ludlow community.

"When Phyllis died her money was in trust," the dedication announcement states. "She directed the trust upon her death to distribute well over a million dollars for the direct benefit of the people of Ludlow. Her generosity directly benefited the town of Ludlow, Black River Academy Museum, Gill Home, Black River Valley Senior Center, Black River Good Neighbors, Ludlow Garden Club, United Church, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Annunciation Church, Masons, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and Rotary Club."

The newly-dubbed Agan Memorial Building currently houses the LPC-TV community television studios and the Black River Good Neighbor food shelf and thrift store. It is located at 37B Main Street, in Ludlow.

"Although Ludlow celebrates Mrs. Agan for that act of generosity, equally important are the many, many acts by William and Phyllis Agan who spent their entire adult lives working for innumerable charitable causes within many organizations with deep roots in Ludlow," the announcement continues. "It is to celebrate the lives of these upstanding citizens that the citizens of Ludlow, through the Ludlow Selectboard, dedicate the building to the memory of William and Phyllis Agan. It is appropriate to dedicate the Black River Good Neighbor Services building because Phyllis was personally involved with this organization and its predecessors."
