Vermont Technical College President To Head Community Foundation
The president of Vermont Technical College is stepping down to head up the Vermont Community Foundation.
Dan Smith has been VTC president since 2014.
The foundation, which was established 30 years ago, is a collection of funds that provide grants and support to Vermont non-profits. It awards about $12 million annually.
Smith took over at VTC at a time when the college was struggling with growing deficits.
Earlier this year, he told VPR that enrollment gains, tuition increases and cost cutting had improved the college’s bottom line. Smith said the college would continue to operate with budget deficits for another two years.
Smith is the son of former Vermont Congressman and Lt. Gov. Peter Smith.
In a statement, the Vermont State College System said an interim VTC president will be appointed before the beginning of the coming school year.
