Trevor Barlow is an independent gubernatorial candidate.

The general election is just weeks away. Leading up to the vote, we're featuring interviews with candidates seeking statewide offices. Trevor Barlow is running for governor as an independent.

Barlow grew up in Springfield and returned to the state to raise his children. He says he was inspired to run for governor after seeing the effects of the opioid epidemic on his hometown.

Barlow says he would spur economic growth in Vermont by earmarking funds from the state’s existing budget to go toward its regional development corporations.

He also discussed his view on the tax-and-regulate model for marijuana, Act 46 and out-of-state prisons.

Listen to the interview with Barlow above. Find VPR's Campaign 2018 coverage here.

Mitch has been a guest host of the national NPR sports program "Only A Game". He's also worked as an editor and producer for international news coverage with Monitor Radio in Boston.
