On election day, Vermonters will go to the polls to vote on candidates for a number of offices across the state. One race that doesn't usually get much attention is state's attorney. All 14 county prosecutors are up for re-election. Only four of the races are contested.

In Bennington County, that incumbent state's attorney is facing a challenge from her former deputy. Erica Marthage – who won the Democratic and Republican primaries in August — was first elected in 2006 and has earned the reputation of being a tough prosecutor.

Christina Rainville worked in Bennington County State’s Attorney’s office and specialized in prosecuting sex crimes. She’s challenging Marthage as an independent.

Listen to VPR’s Liam Elder-Connors speak with Seven Days staff writer Mark Davis about the race. Read Davis' story about the race here.
