The site plan rendering, prepared by architectural firm Dore & Whittier, for the proposed combined middle and high school and athletic complex in South Burlington.

Each week, we check in with local newspapers around the region. This time, Madeline Clark, reporter for The Other Paper in South Burlington joins us to discuss the recent presentation and price tag for a proposed school campus and athletic complex.

Among the people presenting to South Burlington's school board Wednesday were Dore & Whittier Architects, a New England-based firm who has designed several Vermont buildings at places like Green Mountain Power, the University of Vermont and the Charlotte Central School.

A financial advisor and the school district's director of operations and financial management, Gary Marckres, also shared with the board the potential cost for the proposed middle and high school and athletic complex — $209.6 million — as well as its estimated tax impact.

According to Clark's reporting, the owner of a $350,000 property in South Burlington would, without income sensitivity, pay an extra $1,500 each year.

Clark said the issue will be on the Town Meeting ballot for South Burlington voters.
